10.6 Assignment: Works Cited List

Goal

• Construct a Works Cited list using the Modern Language Association (MLA) standard.
• Synthesize and apply evaluation techniques to select quality information sources from a variety of resources.

Guidelines

This assignment allows you to demonstrate the variety of skills you have learned throughout Library 10. You will create an MLA-style Works Cited list with 4 high-quality sources that are helpful for your English 1A research topic. 

• Important: At least 3 of your sources must be from the Cabrillo Library online databases (or OneSearch).
• Review the Assignment Example for a good idea of exactly what is expected.

Step 1: Gather Your Sources & MLA Citations

• I encourage you to use the sources that you already found and cited in the Module 8 Citation Practice and in the Module 9 Citation Practice discussions. You may have enough sources already if you did the extra credit on those discussions!!
• Important: If I have made comments regarding citation format on your previous citation practices, or you have changed your topic, please implement those changes on the Works Cited list.
• Make sure you have a total of 4 sources/citations.

Step 2: Format Your Document

• Open a document (e.g., Google Docs, Word)
• Type your research topic (top left), followed by Works Cited (centered at top)
• Paste in your 4 citations (and double-check them for MLA style)
• Alphabetize the list
• Double-space the entire document
• Add "hanging" indents to your citations (How to Create Hanging Indents)

Step 3: Upload Your Document

• Click on the Start Assignment button at the top of this page
• Scroll down to upload your file or submit directly from Google Docs
