Strike from Main Street

The newspaper articles below from the Register Pajaronian provide some community perspectives on the strike.  The first is a collection of short "man on the street" interviews about the strike.  The second is a profile of a woman who worked as a secretary for the Teamsters Union.  She shares her thoughts about the strikers and how the strike has impacted her life and perspective.

Questions

  • Many of those who were willing to speak to the reporter were supportive of the strikers, but some were more supportive of the companies.  Given what you have learned so far, how would you respond?
  • Why do you think thirty people that were approached refused to comment?
  • The article with Dolores Amick presents an "insider view" approach; how does this article solicit empathy for the strikers?
