General and Subject-Specific Databases

Cabrillo Library provides access to both general and subject-specific databases. These can be accessed by clicking "Articles and Databases Links to an external site." from the Library homepage. Don't forget that you will use your Canvas/Cabrillo login to access databases from off-campus.

Examples of General Databases

  • Academic Search Complete: Articles from scholarly journals, magazines, and newspapers. Covers all fields of knowledge.
  • eBook Collection: Over 150,000 eBooks in all subject areas. May be downloaded or read online.
  • U.S. Newsstream: National newspapers including: New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and Christian Science Monitor.
  • Opposing Viewpoints: Background information on controversial subjects, from capital punishment to immigration to marijuana. Includes pro/con viewpoints, reference articles, interactive maps, infographics, and more.
  • CQ Researcher: Reports on public policy issues. Original, comprehensive reporting and analysis on controversial issues in the news, including health, social trends, criminal justice, international affairs, education, the environment, technology, and the economy.

Examples of Subject-Specific Databases

Subject databases can be very useful when researching a focused topic.

  • Artstor: High-resolution images featuring visual media from leading museums, photo archives, scholars, and artists.
  • Biography in Context: Information about influential people from all time periods and areas of study.
  • Business Source Premier: Company profiles, industry profiles, SWOT analyses, case studies, market research reports, and articles from business publications.
  • CINAHL Plus with Full Text: Nursing and Allied Health journal articles.
  • Literature Resource Center: Information about authors and their works. Literary criticism and analysis.
