What Your Social Media "Likes" Say About You

Please watch the following 10-minute TED Talk by Jennifer Golbeck, computer scientist and Director of the Human-Computer Interaction Lab at the University of Maryland.

Golbeck explains how personal data is tracked on social media sites like Facebook, and how this data can be used to make predictions about you (e.g., political affiliation, intelligence, sexual orientation, drug/alcohol usage). Golbeck warns that this data has the potential to be used for "less altruistic applications":
