1.2 Getting Started with Canvas

Canvas Account menu is in upper-left. First click Settings and then click Notifications.

Customize Your Account

(Account > Settings > Edit Settings)

  • Profile Image: Seeing your friendly face really helps to build community! Please consider adding a picture or avatar Links to an external site. for your profile image. Note: I respect your privacy. Your profile image does not need to be a picture of you - it can be something that represents you, instead.
  • Display Name: If you would like, you may edit your "Display Name" to change how your classmates see your name in discussions, messages and comments.
  • Pronouns: If you would like, you may add your preferred pronouns, which will display anywhere your name appears in Canvas.
  • Ways to Contact: Here is where you can add contact methods (e.g., cell phone for text message notifications, additional email to use).
  • Default Email: If your default email is incorrect, you can change it in MyCabrillo, and/or enter an additional email and make that your default instead.

Set Your Notifications

(Account > Notifications)

Please review and adjust your notification preferences Links to an external site.. For example, you can receive an email or text message each time I post an announcement or leave a comment on one of your submissions.

  • I recommend turning ON immediate notifications for Announcements, Grading, Submission Comments, and Conversation Messages.
  • I recommend turning OFF "new reply" for Discussion Posts.
