10.3 Review: How to Cite Books, Articles, Web Pages


Print Book

Let’s start with a print book’s core elements and construct the citation. The image below is a screenshot of the book’s library catalog record. You can also find the core elements from the title page of the book itself.

MLA Core elements are found in the brief book record, and you can click on "Citation" to get the publisher.

Once again we are using the article record from a library database (Academic Search Complete), however you can also find the core elements on the first page of the text.

Core elements can be gathered from the journal article record in the database. Look for author, title of source, title of journal, volume and issue number, publication date, page numbers, title of database, and  doi or permalink.
