Faculty Use of SAM Codes
Where to indicate SAM code and where to cross-check.
Faculty are charged with picking the appropriate SAM code Links to an external site. for courses inside eLumen when revising or creating new curriculum. The SAM code is in the first tab Cover Info, in box CB09, in eLumen. This element corresponds with the CB03 TOP Code selected. For example, if a vocational TOP Code is selected as denoted by an asterisk (*) in the TOP Code Manual Links to an external site., then CB09: SAM Priority Code must equal A (Apprenticeship), B (Advanced Occupational), C (Clearly Occupational), or D (Possibly Occupational), and respectively cannot equal E (Non-occupational).
When creating career exploration or employment skills courses. The TOP code of 4931.00 will have a SAM code of non-occupational.
The TOP, CIP and SAM codes must all be cross-checked in the TOP/CIP Crosswalk and the SAM code must correspond as indicated above. For CTE courses the SAM code must correspond to the occupation level of the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) code, the next code in this module.
The TOP, CIP and SAM codes are selected for use on the first tab, Cover Info, in eLumen when revising or creating curriculum as seen in the screen shot below and indicated with arrows.
