Library Collections: OneSearch

Now that you have identified your research topic and some keywords, let's use OneSearch to find sources from the library.

What is OneSearch?

OneSearch is a tool that allows you to search most of the Library’s databases, ebooks and selected free web sources, at the same time.

Why use OneSearch?

OneSearch works well when you want to access a wide variety of sources at once, and is a good tool when starting your research. Be prepared to use the limit function in order to focus the large results list.

When to Use OneSearch

Using OneSearch is convenient, but like Google, rather overwhelming at first. You will need to sort through, limit, and edit your results to find information relevant to the topic you are researching about communities and policing.

SuperSearch has icons to indicate the different source types. Look for these to the left of your search results.

Here are some of the types of sources you could retrieve in a single search:

  • Print Book
  • eBook
  • Scholarly (Peer-Reviewed) Article
  • Newspaper Article
  • Magazine Article
  • Conference Materials
  • Trade Publication
  • Book Review
  • Primary Source Document
  • Report
  • Video
  • Audio
