Flyers & Bulletins
The flyer below announces a meeting of the strikers from both the Richard Shaw, Inc. and Watsonville Canning canneries for the purpose of forming a Strikers’ Committee. It is signed by representatives from both canneries.
Below also is the first bulletin of the newly elected Strikers Committee. The bulletin informs the strikers of growing support form their Local 912 and Joint Council 7 of the Teamsters, describes the need for social services for strikers, and calls on Teamsters to join the fight to "bust" unions across agricultural industries.
Questions
- How would the election of a strikers’ committee contribute to the success of their strike?
- Why would they insist that the meeting be attended only by striking workers?
- How might support from the Joint Council 7 of the Teamsters aid the strikers, according to the bulletin?
