Anatomy of a Peer Reviewed Article

Peer reviewed articles follow a common format that usually includes:

  • An Abstract
  • An introduction & review of existing research
  • Study methods
  • Study results
  • Discussion
  • References

Tip:  It is not always necessary to read every section of an article to use it for your research!  Sometimes you can get the information you need by focusing on the introduction, the results and the discussion.

See below for more detail on the different parts of a peer reviewed article.
