Newsletter: Strikers Voice / La Vos Huelgista

This is the first bulletin of the newly elected Strikers Committee, which lists the members, and informs the strikers of growing support of the strike by the Teamsters. The cannery workers were represented by Teamsters, Local 912, but are now being supported by Joint Council 7 of the Teamsters, which means many more locals might contribute to support them, both financially in the form of additional strike funds, and by providing additional numbers of supporters during their marches.  The bulletin also speaks to the need for social services for the strikers and a wider campaign by the agricultural industry to  “bust” the Teamsters Union, which represents a large proportion of the workforce in the canneries and food processing industry.

Questions

  • How might support from the Joint Council 7 of the Teamsters aid the strikers, according to the bulletin?
  • Why might the strikers need to enlist more support from the community?
