Okay, So How Does it Work?

Find Quality OER for Your Discipline

  • Is a full textbook available?
  • If not, can you piece together chapters/sections from multiple textbooks or perhaps create weekly online "reading lists" with articles and other types of materials?

Check for License and Accessibility

  • Is there a "Creative Commons" license? If so, what are the terms? Do you have to give attribution, for example? Read more about Creative Commons licensing.
  • Are the materials accessible to students with disabilities? For example, do videos have accurate captions? Can you find an accessibility statement?

Integrate OER into Your Course

  • Will you use Canvas? Put a link to the online textbook on your syllabus?
  • If using Canvas, how are OER readings, images, or videos most effectively embedded in your modules?
  • Will you need to revise surrounding materials (i.e. quizzes, PPTs, lectures)?
